OpenAI developing voice assistant to rival Siri and Alexa, potential positive impact on stock.

From Business Insider:

OpenAI has filed a trademark application for a “voice engine” to develop “digital voice assistants,” hinting at upcoming releases beyond GPT-5. Trademark applications for future models like GPT-6 and GPT-7 were also filed. The company aims to compete with voice assistants like Siri and Alexa.

In an interview, Sam Altman mentioned a new model release this year. OpenAI’s current offerings include TTS API for speech-to-text conversion and Whisper speech recognition. The company is expected to launch a significant upgrade to its ChatGPT model soon.

Trademark applications for GPT-6 focus on simulating conversations and machine learning datasets, while GPT-7 covers AI software for music generation and software code conversion. The Patent Office rejected a prior attempt to trademark “GPT.” The “voice engineer” trademark application aims to cover various voice assistant functionalities.

OpenAI’s parent company has a global deal with Axel Springer, allowing the training of models on media reporting. The company didn’t comment on the trademark applications or upcoming releases. Potential product features include multilingual speech recognition and AI-based text-to-voice conversion.
