OpenAI Inc. and Microsoft Corp. plan to invest $100 billion to build the world’s largest data center equipped with a supercomputer for developing artificial general intelligence (AGI). The project, named ‘Stargate,’ will use special AI chips to power OpenAI services, with an initial $10 billion investment for a supercomputer in 2026.

The data center will require millions of semiconductors, potentially including Nvidia’s AI chips, high-bandwidth memory from SK hynix and Samsung, and Intel or Arm-based CPUs for AI servers. Microsoft spokesperson stated the plan reflects their commitment to expanding AI capabilities, while OpenAI introduced the Voice Engine for generating imitation voices with preliminary experimental results shared on their blog.
