OpenAI Said to Court Hollywood in Meetings With Film Studios, Directors
From NDTV:
OpenAI is looking to enter the entertainment industry by meeting with Hollywood studios, media executives, and talent agencies to encourage the use of its AI video generator, Sora. The startup has already granted access to big-name actors and directors for the unreleased service. Hollywood is divided on AI’s impact on the industry.
OpenAI has a clear strategy of collaborating with the industry to roll out AI advances gradually. The potential of generative AI services like Sora is recognized, but concerns about disrupting livelihoods exist. Screenwriters and actors secured safeguards against AI use last year. Media companies are wary of OpenAI using their work without compensation.
Amidst growing competition, OpenAI is courting Hollywood to catch up. Major tech companies like Meta Platforms Inc. and Google have text-to-video research projects. AI startups like Runway AI Inc., Pika, and Stability AI are also developing similar technology. Runway’s Gen-2 text-to-video service is already widely used in the industry for various purposes. OpenAI’s Sora is still in the research preview stage with no set pricing.
