OpenAI’s Video-Making Service Faces EU Data Privacy Scrutiny

OpenAI Inc. is under further scrutiny from Italy’s data protection watchdog regarding concerns over its new artificial intelligence video creation system processing personal data. This is the second time OpenAI has faced the regulator’s attention, as they are already investigating data violations with the ChatGPT tool. The Italian regulator has given OpenAI 20 days to provide information on their new AI service, Sora, which can create videos up to one minute long. The regulator is concerned about the implications of Sora on personal data processing in the European Union and Italy, and wants to know if the AI model will be available to the public, particularly in Italy. OpenAI, based in San Francisco and backed by Microsoft Corp., is one of several tech companies using artificial intelligence to improve their products.
