OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed surprise that former co-founder Elon Musk did not show more empathy for the company’s ambitious goals, considering Musk’s past success with SpaceX. Musk sued OpenAI for allegedly violating its non-profit mission by partnering with Microsoft. Altman revealed Musk once wanted to turn OpenAI into a for-profit company under his control. Altman found Musk’s lawsuit and behavior bewildering and unbecoming of a great builder like Musk, admitting it made him and many others sad.
