Silicon Valley Moguls Are Weighing in on Elon Musk’s OpenAI Battle

Elon Musk is suing OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, accusing them of violating their nonprofit mission by partnering with Microsoft. Major investor Vinod Khosla defended OpenAI and suggested Musk’s lawsuit stems from not being involved enough. Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen criticized Khosla for allegedly trying to ban open source. Musk has been critical of Altman’s leadership since leaving OpenAI’s board in 2018. Musk’s disagreements with OpenAI’s direction led him to create his AI company, xAI. Musk accused OpenAI of becoming a closed-source, maximum-profit company controlled by Microsoft. Responding to the lawsuit, Altman has been cryptic while his chief strategy officer suggested Musk’s claims stem from regret over not being involved with OpenAI.
