Stocks Settle Higher on Lower Bond Yields and Quarter-End Window Dressing

Stock indexes closed higher on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 up +0.86%, the Dow Jones up +1.22%, and the Nasdaq up +0.39%. Nvidia’s -2% drop hindered the Nasdaq. Interest rates on 10-year T-notes fell, while the Euro Stoxx 50 hit a 23-year high. US weekly MBA mortgage applications declined -0.7%.Bonds in Europe also fell, with the German bund yield at a 2-week low. The Eurozone’s economic confidence index in Mar climbed +0.8 to 96.3. ECB members mentioned potential rate cuts. In the US, Cintas, Merck, and Marvell Technologies surged, while Arista Networks and Netflix slipped. Cybersecurity stocks dropped, and FedEx was downgraded. Earnings reports by MSC Industrial Direct Inc and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc are expected on 3/28/2024.
