Tesla settles race bias claims by Black former worker after $3 million verdict
From Nasdaq:
Tesla has settled a racial discrimination lawsuit with a Black former factory worker, Owen Diaz, after a jury awarded him $3.2 million in damages. The settlement comes as Tesla faces multiple discrimination lawsuits. Details of the settlement were not disclosed in the court filing in San Francisco federal court.
The settlement ends appeals by both parties after a previous jury awarded Diaz $137 million, which was later deemed excessive by a judge. Diaz had refused a lowered award of $15 million, leading to a second trial being ordered. Tesla had argued it was not liable for the discrimination allegations, while Diaz claimed the company’s lawyers engaged in misconduct.
