Toyota weighing electric, plug-in Tacoma and Tundra pickups
From CNBC: 2024-03-28 16:44:55
Toyota is considering expanding its U.S. truck lineup to include all-electric or plug-in hybrid versions of the Tacoma and Tundra pickups. The automaker is evaluating customer demand and federal emissions regulations to make decisions. Toyota previously announced plans for battery-electric vehicles and is investing in producing new electric SUVs and pickups.
There are currently five all-electric pickup trucks available in the U.S, but they are priced more as luxury vehicles. Stellantis’ Ram brand is expected to release a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle later this year. Automakers like Toyota are reassessing their product portfolios due to slower-than-expected EV adoption and revised emissions regulations under the Biden administration.
Hyundai is also reevaluating its plans for exclusively producing all-electric vehicles at a new plant in Georgia. The company’s president and COO stated that they will adjust production based on market demand and regulatory requirements. The industry is adapting to evolving trends and regulations to meet customer needs and environmental standards.
