US judge says Google must face some advertisers’ antitrust claims, dismisses others

A U.S. judge ruled that Google must face advertisers’ class action lawsuit alleging monopolization of the ad exchange market, while dismissing some antitrust claims focused on ad-buying tools. Gannett, the largest U.S. newspaper chain, can proceed with claims that Google fraudulently concealed anticompetitive effects. Google faces additional antitrust claims, including a lawsuit from the U.S. Justice Department in January 2023. Advertisers and publishers have raised concerns about Google’s lack of transparency in digital advertising. Multiple cases in nationwide litigation were ruled on by the judge. Google and Gannett have not yet commented.
