China stocks end lower, tracking Asian peers – Markets

China stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the Shanghai Composite down 0.18% at 3,069.30 points. The CSI300 index fell 0.36%, with financials down 0.73%. Services activity growth accelerated in March, following positive manufacturing data. Asian markets dipped due to a powerful earthquake and anticipation of US data and rate cuts. Chinese markets will be closed for the tomb sweeping holiday.
Oil prices rose, while gold hit a record high. The Hang Seng index closed down 1.22% at 16,725.10 points. The yuan was weaker at 7.2357 per dollar. In the region, Asia ex-Japan stock index fell by 0.86%, and Japan’s Nikkei index dropped by 0.97%. The earthquake raised concerns about chip-making disruptions. Chinese markets will resume trading on April 8.
