Shares in UK Cybersecurity firm Darktrace (DARK) surged over 19% following a £4 billion US private equity takeover, valuing the company at 618p per share. The deal comes after Thoma Bravo initially pursued Darktrace but later stopped. The acquisition is expected to accelerate Darktrace’s global expansion, as stated by CEO Poppy Gustafsson. Thoma Bravo views this deal as a chance to invest in the cybersecurity market and further develop Darktrace globally. The move to go private also severs ties with controversial investor Mike Lynch, allowing him to cash in around £170 million from his 4% stake. Lynch, facing criminal charges in the US, was behind the $11 billion acquisition of his company Autonomy by Hewlett Packard in 2011.
