Elon Musk arrived in Beijing for an unannounced visit to discuss Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software rollout and data transfer approval with Chinese officials. Musk met with Premier Li Qiang and confirmed the meeting on social media. Tesla has reached an agreement with China to build a plant in Shanghai and plans to make Full Self-Driving available in China soon. Musk is seeking permission to transfer data abroad to train autonomous driving algorithms. The visit comes amid an investigation by U.S. auto safety regulators into Tesla’s vehicle recall in the U.S. for new Autopilot safeguards. Tesla’s stock has declined amid concerns about growth.
