E.W. Scripps hires financial advisor to evaluate interest in acquiring Bounce TV, its over-the-air network for African Americans. Scripps CEO hopes to attract a price tag in the hundreds of millions. Scripps stock trades for $3.70 per share, down more than 50% this year due to pay-TV cancellations.

Bounce TV’s “Johnson” is entering its fourth season, with upcoming new comedy series “Mind Your Business” premiering June 1. Ratings for Bounce TV have improved, with viewership up 14% on linear and 9% on connected TVs. Scripps doubled Bounce TV’s revenue since acquiring it in 2017 as part of takeover of Katz Networks.

Majority of Bounce TV’s audience is derived from over-the-air viewership, with some coming from pay TV and streaming. The network is a free over-the-air channel that caters to African American audiences by broadcasting syndicated shows, movies and original content. Scripps officials have been in talks with potential buyers about a potential sale.
