Exxon Mobil reported first-quarter earnings that missed expectations due to eroding refining margins and collapsing natural gas prices. Revenue was $83.08 billion, beating expectations, but lower than the previous year. Net income was $8.22 billion, down 28% from the same period last year. Chevron faced similar challenges this quarter. Exxon is in a dispute with Chevron over a pending acquisition of Hess Corp. by Chevron. Hess deal is expected to close in 2024.
