Fed Repricing Gives Rise to New Equities Playbook in Asia

A higher-for-longer interest rate environment is boosting cheap Chinese stocks and driving value investment strategies in Asia. Corporate reforms in Japan and South Korea will support a value thesis, while M&G Investment Management is attracted to near record-low valuations for Chinese stocks. Multi-asset managers are turning more selective under this new environment. The Fed is expected to start easing in November, leading to foreign funds selling over $7 billion worth of equities in emerging Asia, signaling the first outflow in six months. Currencies and bonds are expected to face even dimmer outlooks with a tighter-for-longer Fed stance. Chinese and Hong Kong equities are attracting flows due to benign inflation and improving corporate earnings. Japanese stocks remain a top bet for many due to growth revival and corporate reform push despite coming close to a technical correction. South Korea’s chip sector and Indian equities also remain areas of interest for investors.
