In afternoon trading on Friday, Utilities stocks are the worst performing sector, with American Water Works Co, Inc. (AWK) and WEC Energy Group Inc (WEC) showing losses of 2.0% and 1.6%, respectively. The Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU) is flat for the day, up 3.37% year-to-date.
The Consumer Products sector follows, with Tesla Inc (TSLA) and Hormel Foods Corp. (HRL) showing losses of 3.5% and 1.6%, respectively. The iShares U.S. Consumer Goods ETF (IYK) is flat for the day, up 3.05% year-to-date. Tesla Inc is down 33.52% year-to-date, while Hormel Foods Corp. is up 8.70%.
In comparison, the S&P 500 components show seven sectors up and two sectors down. Industrial, Energy, and Healthcare are among the top gainers, while Consumer Products and Utilities are the worst performing. Figures show the broad market impact of sector performance in afternoon trading.
