Users creating a ChatGPT account must agree to disclaimers explaining the use of their information. Disclaimers specify what ChatGPT does, potential inaccuracies, and advise against sharing sensitive information. Users can opt to remove their data from OpenAI servers, but the process isn’t straightforward.
To remove personal data from OpenAI servers, users must access Data Controls tab in ChatGPT, toggle off Chat History and Training setting. New chats won’t train OpenAI’s models or be saved, but existing chats are retained for 30 days for monitoring before deletion.
For users who want to disable model training but keep chat history, they can access OpenAI’s Privacy Portal and select Do Not Train on My Content. This preserves chat history while disabling model training. Understanding these options is crucial in managing privacy when using AI chat services.
