Memory chip producers stop pricing talks after Taiwan earthquake

Micron has halted DRAM pricing discussions with customers following the Taiwan earthquake, TrendForce reports. Samsung and SK Hynix also paused pricing negotiations despite not having production facilities in Taiwan. The spot market for DRAM and NAND Flash had already shown weak demand prior to the earthquake, leading to minimal price fluctuations. The pause in pricing may lead to a short-term rise in DRAM spot prices, but sustainability is uncertain. The cautious move by suppliers reflects the industry’s response to the earthquake. MU shares fell 0.8% in premarket trading, while SK Hynix and Samsung dropped 3.8% and 1% in Korea.
