Former Apple design chief Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are collaborating on an AI-powered personal device, aiming to raise up to a billion dollars from venture capitalists. The device, not resembling a smartphone, focuses on natural interactions with AI. Discussions with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son for a potential partnership involving Arm are ongoing. Tang Tan, departing design chief for Apple, will join Ive’s new venture in February to lead hardware design. The project is in early stages, focusing on home devices with OpenAI software.
