International travel saw a rebound in 2023, pushing global airports up in passenger traffic rankings. Dubai International Airport jumped to second place, while Tokyo Haneda International Airport surged to fifth. Global airports served 8.5 billion passengers, up 27% from 2022. Denver International Airport saw 12% growth but slipped to sixth place in rankings.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta Air Lines’ busiest hub, maintained its top spot with 104.7 million passengers served in 2023. The resurgence of international travel has benefited airlines with big international networks, while U.S. domestic-focused airlines have faced challenges. Domestic U.S. airports continued to see passenger growth, but some slipped in rankings compared to the peak of the pandemic.
