Former OpenAI leader Jan Leike resigned citing safety concerns and prioritization of flashy products over safety at the company. He emphasized the need for more focus on creating AI models that are safe and analyzing societal impacts. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed appreciation for Leike’s contributions and commitment to addressing issues raised. Leike’s Superalignment team has been disbanded and integrated into other research efforts. This follows the resignation of co-founder Ilya Sutskever, who is working on a new project and will be replaced by Jakub Pachocki as chief scientist. Altman expressed confidence in Pachocki’s abilities to lead OpenAI towards its mission of ensuring AGI benefits everyone. OpenAI recently showcased an update to its AI model that can mimic human cadences and detect moods. A licensing and technology agreement between OpenAI and the Associated Press allows OpenAI access to part of AP’s text archives.
