AstraZeneca withdraws COVID-19 vaccine due to surplus of updated vaccines worldwide, including discontinuing in Europe. The company cited declining demand as new vaccines have been developed. Reports show vaccine causes blood clot and low platelet count side effects. Application to withdraw vaccine was made in March and took effect in May. Serum Institute of India stopped manufacturing Covishield doses in December. AstraZeneca transitions to respiratory virus and obesity drugs after COVID-19 sales decline.
