Australia stocks closed lower on Tuesday with losses in the material and healthcare sectors. The ASX 200 declined by 0.28%, with Mesoblast Ltd being a top performer, rising 9.52%. Healius Ltd was among the worst performers, falling by 4.62%. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones with 711 to 457 on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The VIX, measuring implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.60%. Gold futures for June delivery dropped by 0.37% to $2,343.70 per troy ounce. Crude oil for July delivery rose by 0.27% to $78.76 a barrel, while Brent oil for August rose by 0.04% to $82.91 a barrel.

AUD/USD was steady at 0.67, with AUD/JPY rising to 104.50. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 104.38.
