China’s domestic AI chipmakers are rapidly closing the gap on international leaders, SenseTime Group Inc. co-founder Xu Bing stated. China lacks computation power for AI compared to the US, but has the talent and data to catch up. US trade controls have hindered progress, leading to increased focus on domestic alternatives like Huawei Technologies Co. and Shanghai Biren Technology Co. SenseTime plans to become profitable within two years, having invested heavily in research and development. Xu believes China’s disadvantage in computing power won’t be permanent, with local chipmakers making strides in AI development.
