PC makers are banking on AI technology to revive the industry. AI PCs process data faster than traditional ones, perform AI tasks without relying on cloud centers, and support AI model training. Canalys projects over 100 million AI PC shipments in 2025. Specialized neural processing units power these devices alongside CPUs and GPUs.
Leading brands like Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung have introduced AI PCs under Microsoft’s Copilot+ branding. Microsoft’s Surface Laptop and Surface Pro are budget-friendly options starting at $999. Lenovo’s ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 is the priciest model at $1,699. However, privacy concerns have been raised over Microsoft’s new “recall” feature allowing AI assistants to track and retrieve users’ past activities directly on the device.
While some fear the privacy implications of the “recall” feature, others see AI PCs as a way to improve privacy by managing AI tasks directly on the device. Forrester research suggests AI PCs can reduce the need for personal data to train AI systems and prevent copyright violations, making them more suited for enterprise use.
