Former OpenAI Safety Head Jan Leike joins rival AI firm Anthropic, focusing on research

Jan Leike, who resigned from OpenAI, joined rival AI firm Anthropic. He will focus on oversight, generalization, and alignment research. Anthropic received a $4 billion investment from Amazon and is home to the AI chatbot Claude. Other notable recruits include Mike Krieger and Krishna Rao. Leike co-led the dissolved superalignment team at OpenAI. Co-founder Ilya Sutskever also left the company. Altman and Brockman emphasized the importance of AI safety in response to the departures. They are working on safe deployment of advanced AI systems.
