GM Chevy Equinox EV goes on sale

General Motors unveiled the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, aiming to expand their electric vehicle portfolio. Priced at $27,500 with federal incentives, the crossover targets affordable, high-range EVs like models from Chinese automakers. GM’s goal is to ramp up production and meet customer demand, following slower-than-expected EV sales.

The Equinox EV is GM’s latest entry point for all-electric vehicles in the U.S., replacing the discontinued Chevy Bolt. With expectations to be GM’s top-selling EV, it’s a test of the automaker’s ability to mass-produce affordable Ultium-based EVs. The vehicle launch signifies a turning point in GM’s EV portfolio growth.

The Equinox EV, boasting up to 319 miles of range, shares little with its gas-powered counterpart. GM redesigned the vehicle for aerodynamics and features. With models priced from $43,000, the crossover will broaden GM’s EV lineup, which includes the Blazer EV and the more than $96,000 Silverado EV RST.

Despite slower-than-expected EV sales, GM is committed to transitioning exclusively to EVs by 2035 based on customer demand. The Equinox EV is part of this strategy to offer electric vehicles to consumers. GM ranked fourth in U.S. EV market share in the first quarter, behind Tesla, Hyundai (including Kia), and Ford Motor.
