Two chemical and plastics industry groups have filed lawsuits against California Attorney General Rob Bonta to block a probe into the plastic waste crisis. They claim his demands violate free speech and are seeking an injunction. California is investigating the oil industry’s role in the plastic waste crisis and may sue Exxon soon.

A study published in Science Advances revealed that over 90% of plastic waste globally ends up in landfills or is incinerated, with the U.S. recycling rate remaining low at under 9%. Additionally, a Reuters investigation found that advanced recycling projects face challenges despite companies’ claims of success.
