Hedge funds are selling US equities at the highest rate since January, a significant shift after five weeks of buying. The sell-off correlates with positive economic indicators and the Fed’s strong stance on interest rates. Both macro products and individual stocks saw net selling, with cyclical sectors hit hardest.

Last week saw widespread selling in all 11 US sectors, particularly in industrials, IT, financials, energy, materials, and real estate. The industrial sector, including machinery and transportation, faced net selling for 11 consecutive days – the most in over a decade. This trend indicates a major shift in investment strategy.
