The company raised $41 million in funding, mostly invested in compute. Raghavan leads a small 25-member team, aiming for big impact in India. OpenAI is looking to establish presence in India, but Sarvam AI seems to be ahead in leveraging Indic datasets and building for local needs. Sarvam AI is proactively open-sourcing models for fellow enthusiasts to experiment with and learn from. Sarvam AI is partnering with Meta to build vernacular models, moving the generative AI field forward in India. Sarvam AI differentiates itself by focusing on voice communication, as Indians prefer voice over text. The company is building agentic systems, allowing users to take action through voice commands. The Indic voice LLM project in collaboration with Microsoft is set to be a game-changer in the Indian market.
