Japan stocks closed lower on Monday, with sectors like consumer services and chemicals leading the decline. The Nikkei 225 fell by 0.24%. Top performers included Olympus Corp. and Toray Industries, while Shimizu Corp. and Taisei Corp. were among the worst performers. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Notably, shares in Olympus Corp. and Minebea Mitsumi Inc. reached 52-week highs during the trading session. The Nikkei Volatility Index rose by 3.54%. In commodity trading, crude oil for June delivery fell slightly, while gold futures also saw a decrease in value.

In currency markets, USD/JPY rose by 0.07% to 155.84, and EUR/JPY increased by 0.10% to 167.90. The US Dollar Index Futures remained unchanged at 105.18. Overall, Japan stocks experienced a mixed trading day with both highs and lows among various sectors.
