OpenAI has released new content authentication tools, including watermarks for AI-generated voice content, to combat misinformation online. The startup is part of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), hoping its metadata standard will build trust between users and AI developers. The $2 million investment fund will educate online users about AI-generated content, with support from Microsoft and Older Adults Technology Services. GlobalData estimates four billion people will vote in global elections in 2024, sparking debate over the impact of AI-generated content. Responsibilities to prevent misinformation from spreading also land on content creators and social media platforms. Biometric identification company iProove’s chief scientific officer emphasizes the need for industry-wide safeguards against deepfakes. More AI developers and researchers are needed to use C2PA metadata to stay ahead of cybercriminal threats.
