OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has dissolved its AI safety team following the departure of key team members, including co-founder Ilya Sutskever. The move aims to integrate safety efforts across the company after highly publicized exits. John Schulman will lead alignment work, with Jakub Pachocki taking over as chief scientist.
In partnership news, the US and UK have joined forces to address AI safety concerns. The Biden Administration has engaged tech and banking firms to tackle AI dangers. Meta Platforms Inc and Microsoft Corp are among the AI giants actively participating in the White House’s AI safety initiative.
Additionally, in 2023, the AI safety forum, Frontier Model Forum, led by OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet Inc, and AI startup Anthropic, appointed its first director. Plans include establishing an advisory board and developing a fund to support technology research. The forum aims to guide AI safety strategy and promote innovation in the field.
