OpenAI sets up safety committee as it begins training new model

OpenAI has set up a Safety and Security Committee, led by CEO Sam Altman, to oversee the training of its next AI model. Directors Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo, and Nicole Seligman will also be part of the committee. Former leaders of the Superalignment team have left the firm, prompting a reevaluation of safety practices. The committee will make recommendations on safety and security for OpenAI projects, with the first task being a review and enhancement of existing safety practices in the next 90 days. Committee members include technical and policy experts Aleksander Madry, Lilian Weng, John Schulman, as well as Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki and security head Matt Knight.
