The OpenAI Startup Fund, now under Ian Hathaway’s legal control, closed an additional $5 million in funding, per SEC filing. This marks the third time the fund has raised special purpose vehicles, following $15 million last month and $10 million in February.
With $175 million in commitments in the last year and $325 million gross net asset value this year, the OpenAI Startup Fund operates as a corporate venture unit. Microsoft, a key partner, is among external limited partners contributing capital.
The Startup Fund has invested in 16 startups, including Harvey, Ambiance Healthcare, and Figure AI. Notably, Ghost Autonomy, an autonomous driving company, recently shut down. OpenAI has yet to comment on these developments.
