OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is set to reveal more about the company’s efforts to ensure the safety of its artificial intelligence technology, ChatGPT, in response to recent departures from the team dedicated to addressing the risks of super-smart computers.
Co-founder Ilya Sutskever and “superalignment” team co-leader Jan Leike have left OpenAI, leaving the dedicated team leaderless while regulators increase scrutiny on AI safety. Leike emphasized the need for a safety-first approach to developing AGI (artificial general intelligence).
Altman expressed gratitude for Leike’s contributions and pledged to continue the work needed to make OpenAI a safety-focused AGI company. Sutskever, who has been with OpenAI for nearly a decade, remains confident that the company can create safe and beneficial AGI technology.
OpenAI recently released an enhanced version of its ChatGPT technology and Altman compared it to AI from movies, highlighting the potential for AI to surpass human capabilities. Sutskever also believes that AGI will have a profound impact on various aspects of life in the future.
