The co-founder and chief scientist of OpenAI, Ilya Sutskever, along with his co-lead Jan Leike, resigned from the company. OpenAI disbanded the “superalignment” team, transferring its work to other research efforts. The team focused on the dangers of superintelligence, dedicating significant resources to the cause.

Sutskever made the decision to leave after nearly a decade at OpenAI, hinting at an upcoming project. Leike expressed his departure as a difficult decision due to disagreements with the company’s core priorities. He emphasized the importance of AI safety as OpenAI pursues artificial general intelligence.

Other OpenAI employees, including members of the superalignment team, have also recently left the company. This trend follows the launch of OpenAI’s newest AI chatbot, ChatGPT-4o. Despite departures, OpenAI remains committed to advancing AI research and safety measures.
