OpenAI is reportedly developing a Google alternative called the ChatGPT search engine, with a new domain name, showing signs of an imminent launch. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has ties with Y Combinator, an early investor in the company.

The ChatGPT search engine is expected to blend web search engine capabilities with generative AI like ChatGPT, offering AI-generated content alongside relevant web pages, similar to Perplexity AI. This will provide users with detailed information along with direct sources for further reference.

Google dominates the search engine market with around 90% share, followed by Microsoft Bing. OpenAI’s ChatGPT search engine could introduce ads for revenue. The user interface may vary across devices, displaying web results and AI summaries side-by-side on desktops and sequentially on smartphones, similar to Microsoft’s Copilot powered by GPT-4 and Bing.
