The emergence of AI-based technologies in the entertainment industry is both feared and embraced. Chillwave artist Washed Out released a music video entirely created with OpenAI’s text-to-video technology, featuring AI-generated characters portraying a couple’s life stages.

Directed by Paul Trillo, the video was originally planned to be traditional but was created using Sora due to time and budget constraints. Over 700 Sora-generated clips were assembled to depict the couple’s life across decades and locations, resulting in a trippy, dream-like journey with some flaws.

OpenAI introduced Sora’s text-to-video capabilities this year, allowing for the generation of complex video scenes solely from detailed text prompts. Director Trillo emphasized the responsible use of AI tools like Sora as a complement to traditional creation methods, enabling ambitious projects with limited budgets.

Sora continues to undergo testing and refinement by OpenAI and select creatives, with no official release date announced. Despite concerns over job displacement, AI technologies like Sora offer valuable opportunities for pushing creative boundaries and realizing ambitious visions in the entertainment industry.
