Apple and OpenAI have signed a deal to incorporate OpenAI’s generative AI technology into Apple’s software, potentially worth billions. Microsoft CEO Nadella expressed concern over what this means for OpenAI’s relationship with Microsoft. Apple’s head of machine learning has opposed large language model-driven chatbots in Apple products but may be open to other uses of AI. Apple may offer users a choice of AI chatbot providers, solidifying OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s position within the company. Altman is seeking to convert OpenAI into a for-profit corporation or a B-Corp, providing additional goals beyond shareholder interest.
