Tesla Recalls More Than 125,000 EVs For Faulty Seat Belt Warning

From Nasdaq: 2024-05-31 16:00:36

Tesla Inc. is recalling over 125,000 cars in the U.S. due to a software issue that hinders the seat belt warning system, posing an increased risk of injury in a crash. The affected models include certain Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles manufactured from 2012 to 2024.

The NHTSA states that a defective seat belt warning system can raise injury risk during a crash by failing to alert occupants of an unbelted seat. This non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208 can lead to the seat belt warning light and chime not activating as intended.

Tesla plans to address the issue through an over-the-air software update and will begin issuing owner notification letters on July 27, 2024. While no collisions, fatalities, or injuries have been reported, the company has received 104 warranty claims linked to the defect.
