Walmart: E-commerce and Advertising Fuel Strong Growth

Walmart (NYSE: WMT) released its first quarter 2025 earnings, showing a six percent revenue increase to $161.51 billion. Earnings per share (EPS) beat expectations at $0.63, with adjusted EPS reaching $0.60. This led Walmart’s stock to rise over 5% and the company provided positive guidance for Q2FY2025, hinting at continued growth.

Walmart’s segments showed strength, with Walmart U.S. reporting a 3.8% sales growth, Walmart International with 12.1% revenue growth, and Sam’s Club seeing a 4.4% sales increase. eCommerce sales grew 21%, while advertising sales increased by 24%, showcasing the company’s focus on digital and advertising strategies.

Looking forward, Walmart’s capital return strategy includes dividends and share repurchases. Despite lower free cash flow in Q1FY2025, the company expects improvement throughout the year. Guidance for FY2025 anticipates net sales and operating income growth at the high end of previous estimates, reflecting confidence in Walmart’s future performance and ability to sustain momentum.
