Wendy's launches $3 breakfast combo to compete with McDonald's $5 meal deal

Wendy’s is launching a $3 breakfast combo on Monday, including seasoned potatoes and a choice between bacon, egg & cheese or sausage, egg & cheese English muffin. This move comes as McDonald’s plans a $5 meal deal beginning June 25 for a month. Both chains aim to boost sales amidst consumer pullback.

As consumers become more selective with spending, fast-casual chains face a consumer slowdown, while others like Sweetgreen, Chipotle, and Wingstop see strong sales despite higher prices. Companies catering to lower-income consumers struggle amid inflation. Wendy’s and McDonald’s have reported modest revenue growth, but missed earnings expectations due to higher prices.

Yum Brands, owner of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, reported disappointing earnings as revenue failed to meet Wall Street estimates. The company cited same-store sales declines for KFC and Pizza Hut. Fast-food chains are adapting to consumer behavior changes as they compete for value-minded diners.
