Amazon is set to launch a discount web store for selling low-cost apparel and products directly shipped from Chinese warehouses to compete with platforms like PDD Holdings Inc. and Shein. The move aims to provide items for under $20 that weigh less than a pound, excluding edibles or liquids.

In a meeting with Chinese sellers, Amazon announced plans to introduce a channel on its platform for affordable fashion wear and household products. Sellers will ship items to an Amazon warehouse in China, which will then be sent to US warehouses. The new programme aims to deliver ultra-low-cost goods from China to the US in nine to 11 days.

Amazon has surpassed a market value of $2 trillion for the first time as it prepares to launch the direct-from-China discount store on its website. Earlier this year, the company began reducing fees for merchants selling low-priced clothing to attract more sellers to its platform.
