Apple and OpenAI’s partnership at WWDC will integrate ChatGPT into Apple’s ecosystem without any cash payments. Apple believes the exposure OpenAI gets on hundreds of millions of devices is valuable. The deal is non-exclusive, with talks ongoing with Anthropic and Google for alternative chatbot options, like Google’s Gemini, expected later this year.

Apple plans to generate revenue from these partnerships through revenue-sharing agreements. This involves taking a percentage from AI providers who monetize chatbot results, such as ChatGPT Plus’s $20 per month subscription plan. They aim to offset potential revenue losses from chatbots and LLMs diverting users from traditional search engines.

Apple’s foray into AI with OpenAI marks a significant step in their strategy. They aim to expand support for Apple Intelligence to other languages beside American English next year. Additionally, deals with Baidu and Alibaba are being considered to offer chatbot services in China, where access to ChatGPT is restricted.
