Apple and OpenAI have a mutual partnership, with no payments being exchanged between the two companies at this time. The arrangement involves Apple providing exposure to OpenAI’s ChatGPT to millions of users, creating a mutually beneficial relationship. However, this could potentially evolve into a revenue share deal in the future.
During WWDC 2024, Apple introduced AI features under the name “Apple Intelligence,” utilizing on-device models created by Apple and secure server calls through Apple Cloud Compute. The company is also offering users the option to access ChatGPT on a per-request basis through Siri and other tools, with user authorization required for each call.
ChatGPT integration and Apple Intelligence features are set to launch in beta in the fall, with a gradual rollout expected during the initial release. As part of the partnership, OpenAI is the launch partner for the alternative server-side LLM option, allowing users to connect premium ChatGPT accounts for more advanced features without data collection on requests from Apple users.
