Apple is developing a new battery replacement method using electrically induced adhesive debonding

Apple is working on technology to simplify iPhone battery replacement, in response to a new EU law. The company is exploring electrically induced adhesive debonding for easier battery access. This method may debut in an iPhone 16 model later this year and expand to all iPhone 17 versions next year.

Despite the advancements, users will still need to manually open the iPhone, as components are tightly fastened. Apple plans to provide battery health metrics from late 2024 to support third-party batteries. The company has introduced self-repair options and diagnostic tools to address concerns about repair difficulties.
