ChatGPT maker OpenAI buys this analytics startup founded by Indian engineers

Microsoft-backed OpenAI has acquired database analytics startup Rockset, founded by Venkat Venkataramani and Dhruba Borthakur. The company, known for real-time search and analytics products using AI, raised $105 million in funding. The deal, valued at a few hundred million, will enhance OpenAI’s enterprise products, improving AI model responses.

Rockset’s team will join OpenAI, powering ChatGPT’s retrieval infrastructure for faster and more accurate responses. The acquisition leverages Rockset’s capabilities for rapid data indexing and search, targeting businesses. OpenAI’s CTO predicts advancements in AI technology, with a future ChatGPT possessing “PhD-level intelligence” for specific tasks by 2026.
