OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is facing challenges with launching new ChatGPT features, following the successful launch that propelled OpenAI to the forefront of human-like AI development. The company has faced PR setbacks and development delays. Competitors like Google, Meta, and smaller companies have unveiled their own AI models to catch up with OpenAI’s advancements.

OpenAI announced a delay in the release of an upgrade to its chatbot’s voice mode feature, due to issues with responding to users and observing tone. The existing voice feature had problems with multiple speakers and background noises. The company needed more time to improve content detection and scale the infrastructure.

OpenAI is also facing delays with its Sora model, which generates videos based on text prompts. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai raised concerns that OpenAI’s training of Sora may have violated YouTube’s terms and conditions. Despite releasing GPT-4o, OpenAI faces competition from rival AI lab Anthropic, whose new model Claude 3.5 Sonnet outperforms GPT-4o in coding and reasoning benchmarks.

OpenAI recently partnered with Apple to bring ChatGPT to iPhones, iPads, and Macs, giving OpenAI access to Apple’s large user base. However, the integration does not come with financial compensation, and Apple has not guaranteed exclusivity, indicating a willingness to work with other AI companies. In the race to achieve AGI, the future remains uncertain for OpenAI and its competitors.
